System Safety Specialist

We currently looking for System Safety Specialist IV.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in Safety Management, Engineering, Environmental or Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical, Physical or Biological Sciences, Ergonomics or related degree or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus six (6) years of satisfactory, full-time professional system safety work.
  • 30 Hour OSHA course in Construction Safety and Health (29 CFR 1926) within the last five (5) years

Experience Requirements:

  • One year of full-time satisfactory experience overseeing safety program to include review and implementation of written safety programs, development, review and implementation of Safe Work plans, oversight and continuous follow-up regarding safety throughout project operations
  • NYCT/other experience working along railroad or rail transit Right of Way

Licensing Requirements: None

Special Skills / Training Requirements:

  • Accident Investigation capabilities /experience
  • CHST, ASP, CSP, CIH accreditation (Preferred but not required)
  • NYC DOB Site Safety Manager (Preferred but not required)
  • Current NYS DOL Asbestos Inspectors License (Preferred but not required)
  • Current C-3 or C-5 SSPC Certificate (Preferred but not required)
  • OSHA Construction Safety & Health Outreach Trainer (Preferred but not required)
  • Consultant shall be responsible for all their required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), associated training, and maintenance of same. Time spent in doing so shall be at the sole expense of the consultant individual.

Description of Work:

  • Perform safety oversight inspections at various construction sites
  • Review to recommend approval/acceptance of Contractor safety submittals (i.e.: Accident Prevention Programs, Safe Work Plans, MPT Plans, Temp. Subway Barriers, Gasoline Powered Equipment Placards, Temp. Enclosures, etc.)
  • Review and evaluate qualifications of Contractor proposed safety management
  • personnel. Provide disposition to CMO/CCM for Co-Approval
  • Conduct post-accident /incident analyses or investigate safety related issues to assist in the resolutions of safety deficiencies and/or findings and the dissemination of information throughout CPM
  • Conduct trend and statistical analysis of date and provide reports/recommendations for
  • systemic improvements
  • Perform training functions as may be required (OSHA, safety workshops, project safety
  • meetings and/or stand-downs)
  • Function as a technical resource to the Program for safety related matters
  • Assist in the performance of safety process audits of in-house construction management for compliance with NYC Transit construction safety policies and guidelines (PMP/PMG 110)
  • Provide safety guidance and training to facilitate field progress of project construction
  • Perform other safety related tasks as may be required to enhance the department’s or Contractors’ awareness of safety management
  • Contribute to Program Area monthly safety meetings
  • Participate in project Qualification, Construction & Safety Kickoff meetings
  • Compile weekly and/or monthly personal work activity reports
  • Selected candidate to provide his/her own cell phone
