Job Description
Crime Data Analyst Job Opportunity:
Crime Data Analyst Job needs to meet the following requirements.
Background:
Department of Safety & Security is to maintain a safe and secure transportation environment for both customers and employees and aims to enhance safety through the services of a crime data analyst to provide data analysis review and to the cognizant Director Data Information and Analysis.
A. Purpose
The Agency is seeking the services of a crime data analyst consultant for 12 months to:
1. Work with and across all agencies to map current security processes and data that will be collected using Agency provided data application.
2. Establishing consensus with all agencies, on common fields and processes that need to be tracked and
3. Perform data entry and compile reports which meet stakeholder needs. This document is an outline of the requirements and preferences required to successfully fulfill the position.
B. Responsibilities
The Agency is seeking the services of a data professional to demonstrate an ability to review data and manage data compiled using the designated system assigned by Agency. The primary office location of this role will be New York, 10004. The position’s responsibilities shall consist of obtaining security related information through various sources and agencies, scanning for common statistical data, developing action plans, participation in meetings and otherwise related tasks as directed.
Data Gathering: The successful applicant shall engage in obtaining and gathering statistical data concerning the agency requirements, as detailed herein. This service includes, but is not limited to, the dictates of workflow requirements as stated by the cognizant Director Data Information and Analysis.
Compiling and Reviewing Records: The successful Crime Data Analyst professional must utilize current agency designated computerized interfaces and systems, to include both internal reports and databases.
Data Analysis: Under the direction of the cognizant Director Data Information and Analysis, the Crime Data Analyst Consultant will be responsible for the successful analysis and presentation of data. Data analysis includes the ability to compile crime related data fields, enter data, assign priorities, follow Standard Operations Procedures (“SOP”) and determine relevancy. Data collection and gathering from various Agencies for daily security operational statistics. Development of action plans, schedules, and keeping participants in the development meetings appraised and on track.
C. Educational Requirements
A baccalaureate degree issued after the completion of a four-year program at an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Information Technology, Security Management, or other closely related field, and one year of full-time paid experience in a security related position, and or emergency dispatching type environment,
Or
A high school diploma from an accredited institution and five (5) years of full-time paid work experience as described in section one (1) or, the minimum requirements,
Or
A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills:
1. Proficient written and oral communication skills in English as well as the ability to collect and interpret data effectively from various verbal and written sources.
2. Proven ability to act in a professional manner and maintain a positive attitude.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Windows based operating systems, Microsoft Office, and other applications.
4. Ability to accurately type 40 Words per Minute (“WPM”) while communicating.
5. Ability to work in a multi-faceted, fast-paced, and high intensity emergency environment while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
6. Ability to perform task prioritization, organizational and analytic based reporting skills.
7. Proven ability to make critical decisions based on current data, past experiences, and business rules.
8. Proven ability to effectively complete multiple critical concurrent tasks.
Specialized Knowledge Preferred:
1. Previous administration, operation, or maintenance/installation experience with computer records management systems.
2. Geographical familiarity with the New York Metropolitan region.
3. Previous experience in mass/public transportation systems.
4. Familiarity with computer systems and databases.
Preferred Skills:
1. Work experience with regional police agencies.
2. Ability to manage simultaneous requirements.
3. Strong Experience with Records and/or Data Management Systems
4. Project Management Certification preferred.
Other Requirements:
1. Must pass a background investigation.
2. Must pass a drug and alcohol test.
3. Must possess a valid New York State Driver’s License.
